It has been a while, but finally made it to an Ash Wednesday Service. The somber tones of the hymns accompanying this season are a reflection of Jesus’ approaching of His crucifixion and the sins He takes with him there, on behalf of all of the world.
One of the hymns sung during the evening was Jesus, I Will Ponder Now. In six lines, the verses from Luke 18:31-34 are illustrated. Jesus’ Passion is one of the important, powerful stories in the bible. Truthfully, the book is a wonderful read from cover to cover, from Genesis to Revelation, but I digress.
Invoking the aid of the Holy Spirit for the strength to properly meditate on the how and why Jesus did what He was sent to do, how I played a part in the cause and justification following… The days leading up to Good Friday are important in understanding how we failed the Law and yet in Jesus Christ, our ransom will be paid in full. The gospel is more than “good news” – it is the only news worth returning to time and time again.
