Star Wars

“May the 4th be with you.”

Yes, I am a space cadet and I’ve no problem with it. While I wasn’t born early enough to watch the original Star Trek series when it first aired, I was influenced by the animated version and eventually the re-runs. Little did I know that as a child I was exposed to serious, societal issues in such an ‘out of this world’ format. As far as I was concerned as a child – Spock ruled, and so did Uhura, Scotty and Sulu.

Star Wars has been and always will be Luke and Leia Skywalker’s story. Yes the prequel trilogy was enjoyable, the special effects impressive, Qui-gon and young Obi-Wan fascinating, but to try to consider the saga as George Lucas had in mind – no, I will not be forced from my preferred interpretation of focus.

“May the Force be with you,” has been uttered at least a dozen times in the half-dozen films. The most significant moment would be from a reluctant, unbelieving Han Solo in making the remark to  Luke for the final attempt against the Death Star. Which character has given the greeting the most? I want to say Obi-Wan, however I am not entirely sure. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that someone knows that answer with confidence.

What is the Force (or the Schwartz if one has viewed Mel Brooks’ parody)? There are different explanations given throughout the film series, without it being ‘one specific thing.’ Almost any science fiction series includes in its world building a belief system or guideposts for the lands, planets, what have you. Here on plain planet Earth, most of us have Faith. What is Faith?

Will have to ponder that tomorrow.
