Clear View

Mt. Elbert Hike by Tommia Wright

Hard to believe it was almost three years ago that a group of us attempted to reach the top of Mount Elbert. Most of us camped out the night before, to be closer to the trail head, to get an early start. The views along the way were breathtaking, including the lakes in the distance – where a few fishermen were seen later on.

A few of us didn’t make it to the top, but the distance we covered – between swollen knees, sore hips and every possible obstacle not good for hiking steep trails – was worth the day spent. Sometimes, a clear mind can be obtained from a good hike, even if it is along a river in one’s backyard. A new point of view from a different elevation can lift one’s spirits, put into perspective the troubles and tribulations below.

A fantastic day can be had in a getaway. Given today’s busy schedules, various responsibilities and the such, it is important now, more than ever, to find balance among the bunch.
