In keeping with the ‘fan’ focus and given it is the fourth, I figured it would be a good opportunity to look at the comic team “The Fantastic Four.”
First thing I can say about this is – I know nothing.
I had never read the comics (well, not that I remember) in my uncles’ collections. Spiderman, Superman, Donald Duck and Ritchie Rich were the ones I could find. Superman was better than Spiderman; Donald was as goofy as Ritchie. But they were books to read and at that time, that was the only thing that mattered.
I still know nothing about Fantastic Four, never having bothered with the movies or comics. Then again, I have never read the Incredible Hulk nor do I intend to watch the movies. The comics-to-cinema have included of late: X-Men, Hellboy, Superman, Spiderman (rumored to be redone again), the Avengers, Ironman and many more. Either Hollywood has become completely incompetent of creating new ideas or this is another rediscovery of the talent of artists who, by nature, show a compelling story to tell.
Maybe I’m just old, stubborn and not in the mood to change towards the new. With the exception of the Batman/Dark Knight trilogy and maybe Ironman, there aren’t many films that are on the ‘must see’ list. Christopher Reeve is the only big-screen Clark Kent. Lou Ferrigno and Bill Bixby are the only Incredible Hulk team for me. As for Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter is supreme, and only Lindsay Wagner can be fantastic as Bionic.
Then again, maybe, just maybe I’ll see if there is a Fantastic Four story worth collecting from the library shelf… And maybe not.
