Kismet and Kaleidoscopes – two fun toys of youth.
With kismet, the chance to find something to score with in a rolls of chance made counting and pattern-finding fun. There were more options with Kismet than Yahtzee.
Kaleidoscopes made for a fun, colorful way to look at the world. Still trying to decide how to make one.
In the meantime, here’s the only ‘odd shot’ of the two items of play:
What fun games did you play with as a kid?

This is great it made me bring out my Kaleidoscope. A fun post!
I’m glad to hear that! (smile).
I loved jacks. I would like to find a well-balanced metal set since the plastic ones are all but impossible to pick up and it’s just frustrating. They also make them too big for kids’ hands to pick up well, I’m assuming to gain stability so they won’t break or something.
I also loved my lite-brite. I think you can still find those around, and they’ve come up with some fun evolved ones using neon colors etc.
Etch-a-sketch was also a winner.
I can’t believe I forgot the game of jacks! I suspect you’ll have better luck finding a metal set from a general or hardware store.
As for Etch-a-Sketch, it’s fun to find the original.
