Looking Up

Looking Up by Tommia Wright

There’s a calendar I have that requires a daily turn of the page. A photograph from nature, a positive interpretation and a verse below.

Given the blessings of late, I had to take a closer look at today’s verse:

“You guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” ~ Isaiah 6:7.

I could either look in the mirror and count the many sins weighing me down – outnumbering the hairs on my head – or look to the one who has covered me with His cloth of righteousness. I could either see the redness and filth of my many failings, or focus on the whiteness and purity of the One who paid the price for me.

What is it that I wish to see? Looking back, to a past that cannot be changed; towards the distance to a future unknown; or to the present, in more ways than one?

I enjoyed a visit with a friend today and it is amazing, no matter how insane the beginnings of our paths may have been, through grace, faith, family, foundation and friendships, we have persevered, prospered, remained positive in who we are, what talents we have been given, where we stand, and why we do some of the things we do. How much time remains is the unknown.

The positive saying to today’s calendar page read: “Good news! Through Christ you have a clean start to this day.”

The wonderful, blessed thing is having a clean start each and every day. Are there things I wish I had done by yesterday? Sure. Is there a long list of things I want or need to have done for or by tomorrow? Definitely. Do I use the time I have wisely for today? Probably not. Is there a chance for change for that tomorrow? Yes.

What are the goals, priorities or people who feed the purpose of being? Have I been fair to any of that? Can I do better than I have been? Are there any regrets? Should I lay all of that down onto a yoke that will bring me down or give it up in prayer for guidance, strength, and a solution that may or may not be immediately visible, may or may not be what I think I am looking for?

I do not know, except that as the sun sets on today, I know the Son shines on forever, a clean start to the day. Amen.
