Make Mine Music!

Make Mine Music by Tommia Wright

Decided to do something I hadn’t done in a long time. I went to a concert! Not because the price was right (free), but because the evening was – free. As in a gradual return to ‘regular routine.’ Of course I call ‘normal’ anything but. That and I recall one professor at university telling us that ‘normal was a myth.’ But I digress.

A show that includes singers and dancers -who can croon and soft shoe, belt a ballad and dance ballet without losing their breaths or balance – through decades of music with ease is a treat! From Frankie Valli to Bon Jovi! A friend of mine asked how I could know the oldies being so young. I love the fact my friend is young at heart and has as an eclectic collection of music as I do.

I have to admit the ‘music of old’ makes more sense to me than some of the current singers, unless I’m just too young to understand it somehow. (For example, “Crazy Frog” has me hopping mad, but it makes more sense than some of the songs on the country channels that sound more like rock and roll).

It’s amazing to realize the kind of music that can come from one part of the country. Imagine – an armchair audio tour of America. Beginning with the Jersey state, I must say I can justify finding time to see the show again!

What music gets you moving? Any particular kind of region, style or tempo to get the toes a tapping?

  1. I love everything from classical, hymns, folk songs, the old Western ballads (Billy Venero or Little Joe the Wrangler are real tear jerkers), the blues, the early jazz music to the 50s and 60s rock and roll. Some of the music out of the 70s and 80s was okay, but rap does absolutely nothing for me. Even the slow songs the singers scream as if that proves they are really getting into the music. It’s not necessary to scream.

Drop a Note.
