Meandoring Monday – Memo Mess

Memo Mess by Tommia Wright

Memo Mess by Tommia Wright

I couldn’t help but reblog two great posts this morning – I was distracted by their message when I was supposed to be doing other things.

I hate springing ahead because I definitely lose a spring in my step. A good friend in Colorado knows how bad the Sunday in question is given my bad sense of timing on that leap – more like fall-flat-on-my-face day, but I digress.

Remember the Bil Keene Family Circus comics where Billy is given a directive: go from point a to point b? Simple, right? To quote a tie-fighter pilot in the (proper) first Star Wars film, “Stay on target.”

Well, the first Sunday after the ‘leap’ usually finds me struggling with that, even with the regular ‘to do/don’t forget’ list written on the mirror (done the night before so I don’t spend the sleeping hours tossing, turning, trying to remember what not to forget), my mind has its own ‘temporal jet lag’ if you will.

How to remedy this? Well, of course logic suggest keeping to a proper routine. Definitely strayed from that lately due to other mischievous endeavors. Add to that a splendid, sunny Saturday afternoon at the library, a sunny day (never let those go to waste!), and going to a book signing for Agatha Hattie where the illustrator offered encouraging suggestions about print-making for beginners and the author sang songs….well….

That led me to composing music again. However, to do that, had to get to the keyboard. To get to the keyboard, had to get past the stacks of library books (even after returning a dozen of them), the boxes of papers for sorting, the bag for ‘remember to sort’ and the bags of cloths destined for the thrift shop. No problem.

Except for Kit and Kat. They lay claim to the corner I was aiming for. Had to spend time with them, then found the yarn (another bag to relocate out of paws’ reach) and found the knitting needles, a few unfinished projects, patterns, etc.

Then that led to dealing with the sewing machine and the various fabrics purchased for pillows/pillowcases to be made. Target? Four. Done? None.

Then I saw that I had no thread. Make a shopping list. Still had the bulbs to replace in another part of the loft. That led to other things that required repainting, repairing or repurposing. Oh, and the end table my brother asked me about that I said I couldn’t find (funny, it was stacked with books).

So, played phone tag with my brother. Followed by email. Followed by unanswered snail mail. And bills. And finding a  camera with no film. Film with no camera, and a disc for a camera that wasn’t where I thought it was.  It was probably by the keyboard I meant to get…

So, yes, that’s how my first day of the ‘spring ahead’ goes for me on any given Sunday/Monday…

I had a list containing the various lists not to miss…..

Where did that go?

Do you stumble with ‘springing ahead’ or just take it in stride?

Spring ahead is no problem. I’m back on Arizona time. It’s the Fall back that waps me. I do have one small suggestion. Find one or two projects and stick with that or none will be done. Things will just sit there in stacks or piles.

Oh true, I usually take things one at a time – unless my rhythm’s thrown off with these ‘change the clock (find the battery)’ situations. (smile)

Oh, geez, do I know how trying to do one thing often leads to a dozen other entirely different things, and I empathize!

I’m stealing the writing on the mirror tip. It’s a good one for someone who tends to lose the notebook containing their to-do list every time they take it out of their pocket, and I have dry erase markers to spare.

I find the mirror list very helpful because a) I turn my back on the issues and sleep well (most times). b) It’s the first thing to focus on in the morning after reading. I sometimes use a color-coding system, too.
