Dreams. Some tempt you to stay asleep. Others jar you from repose. And others dissipate before a single thread could be grasped.
A rambling list of things pertaining to dreams because I foolishly set myself up for too little sleep (again) having lost myself in reading (again). The last time this happened, I picked up a copy of Stephen King’s “Insomnia” to read where I promptly dropped off before the end of chapter one. To this day, I still don’t know what the rest of the story’s about.
Movies
- Dreamscape. The saving grace of that film: Dennis Quaid’s character overcoming his fears. Didn’t help that those fears became mine for some time to come.
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Only saw this movie recently while going through my David Strathairn list. Not a bad film. Not a ‘must have.’ Actually, can’t recall if there really is a Shakespeare to film that is worth having…
- Field of Dreams. Only one of the best baseball films ever! I mean, it had James Earl Jones in it! And it was on par with the enjoyment of the book.
- What Dreams May Come. The same haunting feeling that Somewhere in Time had, to see Robin Williams on the quest before him is moving.
- Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy! A classic example of why some do-it-yourself projects should not exist. I can’t believe someone thought they could remake this gem!
Musically, that list might be a bit long, so here’s the short list, aka my favorites:
- A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Walt Disney’s Cinderella
- A Kiss to Build a Dream On by Louis Armstrong
- California Dreamin’ by the Mamas and the Papas
- Daydream Believer by the Monkees
- Only in My Dreams by Debbie Gibson
- Sweet Dreams by The Eurhythmics
- Sweet Dreams by La Bouche
- River of Dreams by Billy Joel
- Rock and Roll Dreams Come True by Meatloaf
and the BEST, motivating dream song: The Impossible Dream sung by Peter O’Toole.
What “Dream Items” are on your mind?
Oh, my goodness! How is it that I never saw Peter O’Toole sing The Impossible Dream before! Love your lists!
good list of all things dream 🙂
Your “Insomnia” reading experience is hilariously ironic. And I love “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.” Actually, I love anything Cary Grant’s in. I like “Dreaming with a Broken Heart” by John Mayer. Sad but beautiful.
Thanks. I’ll have to dust that book off soon, I guess. I haven’t heard John Meyer’s song – I’ll check it out, thanks!
I have to tell my friend to search this up, she’s obsessed with dreams.
Thanks.
hahaha cracked me up when you fell asleep reading Insomnia!!! I have dreams around songs that run through my head incessantly before and during my sleep…they play over and over again in my head. I thought it was WAY cool this morning that I woke up dreaming about the song, Welcome Home, and my son showed up an hour later! I think YHVH’s angels were singing in my head! 🙂
Insomnia puts people to sleep? Sigh…I wish!
Hmm, I’m slower than usual on this, but just found the audiobook version and Eli Wallach reads it- by golly, I think I can get through the book now!!
