Wednesday’s Words

Vduck timeery little writing since the end of NaNo. In fact, this is the first time I have etched out for myself, in between work and sleep.

Leave it to Casz, the Cheer-leading, Advising, Supportive Zen-Moment provider!

She kindly provides weekly writing prompts – missives I tuck away into digital folders the same way I do with Linda’s lifelines.

Linda offers a daily Bible verse, or my ‘quick take away/escape’ to read during my first break at work (when I remember). This is the ‘mid-day sip’ I take for the soul, to keep the momentum going from the Daily Devotion I get from the WEL.

Casz’s weekly reminders are my beacon, my reminder of ‘hey, there is more to life than work!’ Today’s message was perfect, the ‘moment of zen’ being: “When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” ~Confucius

So, tonight, before the crash, I dared to scribble the start of a silly little short. In the morning, I may adjust some action steps.

In the meantime, I would be remiss if I failed to share the latest in book discoveries and news:

  • Gifts for Geeks will be on December 13th at the AFK Elixir and Eatery if you are looking for sci-fi/fantasy
  • Users, the new book by Stacy and Jenn Buck is available now on Amazon
  • FreeValley Publishing’s first anthology will include availability at the Si View Holiday Bazaar, and a reading at the Black Dog

From the archives…because it’s too cold to go outside and I’ve a few more words to write for NaNoWriMo.

Saturday Snapshot

1 morning's snow

Now it is here, the blanket of white
Amazing how much can fall overnight.
Time to find the scarves, the gloves, the hat
Under the summer storage; that’s where it’s at.
Roads are all icy
Even the walkway’s dicey.
Silent night’s near.
Granted, is that how we take the scene
In front of us, so serene?
Forest for the trees, branching that way and this.
The same with friends and family; a time of bliss

Tuesday’s Timing

Steppin' Off the WorldThere’s probably a proper title for this piece of art discovered while at the Smithsonian. Today, I think I’ll call it  ‘Steppin’ Off the World.’

Catching up on my favorite blogs (yes, that list is as long as my current NaNo word count from winning is short), I loved Misifusa’s “Loving Embrace Needed.”

Steppin’ Off The World of Stalling
Respect the time provided; there is no rewind
Yourself, you alone, have 100% choice control
Enough to know to listen, to see
To determine what your path should be
Walk by faith, not by sight
Away from the distress where there is no light
From the doubts that anchor down away from
Anything where dreams might bound
That may push you beyond the comfort zone
No more excuses, things to atone, for the
Longer you wait, the more you postpone
Serves no one but Time, and what is that for?
You only lack nerve, confidence, and support. Confidence
Grows best when you put in effort into things
You value, things you hold dear
Or another way to see it – replace curiosity for fear, For what
Makes you stronger, as
You grow old, is to try new things; be
Happy, be bold.

Monday Morning

sunrise2

It pays to leave late for work some days
To escape the blah of routine’s haze.
Ten minutes now is a golden moment later
Compared to the o’dark-thirty, this scene is greater
Than the basic calendar photo at the desk
As winter descents, so does the dusk.

Sunday Snapshot

pnwa writers cottage

Inching right along toward the goal of 50K
From coffee shop to Writers’ Cottage
The total was okay.
Beverages discovered, book covers perused
Actually came up with 5K words
(Question is, how many will be used?)
With misspollyanne and Quinnleeeee,
With Winnie, and jeffjones.o
Our stories, word war by word war,
Continue to grow.
Now to the final hour of the night
Just how many more words can I write?

Saturday Snapshot

Tracks

What’s around the bend – something old
Or something new?
Will you stay upon the track
Or turn back around?
Will the path lead to openness
Or take you through a tunnel?
What matters if we stay on track
Or make our own path.

Thursday’s Thankfulness

rainbow 3.2014

If blessings were colors, what would yours be
In terms of defining orange, violet and green?
If blessing were colors, how would they start –
Blue as the sky, red as the heart?
If blessings were colors who would know
Where yellow got its vibrant glow?
If blessings were rainbows, know what you’d find?
More than a pot of gold –
It would be peace of mind.
