Wednesday Words

Wednesday Morning

The Son above
Madness below
Human kindness continues to show
No matter how hard evil attacks
People get up, stronger, push back
For daylight will emerge (cloudy or not)
And banish the night.

Too Much….

g

Another new topic/theme/target I’m trying this month is “Too Much…” Tuesdays; a mixture of new vices found, or observations/rantings to be shared at a minimum. (There’s too much negativity in the world; why add to it?)

I recently discovered “Doctor Who.” It’s all SnoValley Hobbit’s doing – she told me to watch “Blink,” telling me it was a safe introduction to the time traveling adventures. I’ve a confession to make: thanks to V-, I have a hard time seeing gargoyles the same way again. Ever. Kept looking for this Doctor Who and wondered if it was a ‘Where’s Waldo’ of sci-fi because I hardily saw the titular character until the end. I let a month pass before telling V I watched it.

Then I had to find the rest (once I was reassured that the rest of the eps weren’t quite as terrifying – but that’s for another rambling). Along the way, I’ve found a few books to read (courtesy of the library), a comic or two to buy (a bit more affordable), almost all of the soundtracks to listen to, and many, many an audiobook to borrow  – the Who collection now tied with the Louis L’amour list.

One of my favorite episodes of the new collection has to be “Gridlock.” The eloquent, evasive explanation of Gallifrey at the start and end of the episode hooked me further into this character, as well as the quiet support that was Martha Jones. (I decided to jump right at the start of series three, only to learn that it would do well to start at series one with some different Doctor/companion, but I digress).

The description of the planet Gallifrey was inviting, intriguing and immersed with a mixture of emotions from the Doctor, I had decided to create my own illustration. Doubt it compares well to the ‘actual’ visuals of the planet, but it’s a fun exercise. Now to a) find the Class Doctor Who eps, b) catch up on the Matt Smith/11 era and maybe, just maybe see if this 12th regeneration is of interest.

What series has captured your imagination?

Minute on the Map

Aitutaki DevilGoing to try something new this month – “Minute on the Map.”

While I’ve never bothered to complete the papers needed to renew my passport, I still love the idea of traveling – preferably by train, second by plane, but much more affordable by mind.

Maybe that’s why I splurged on a page-a-day calendar of “America, the Beautiful.” (Then there’s the free online choice – “1,000 Places to See Before You Die.”) Plenty of pen and paper on hand, the above sketch is called “Towering Cook.”

So, Mondays will a blending of a few things (in this case, a page from two calendars, from another, a title to a rambling).

Daylight's Teardrop by Tommia Wright

Daylight’s Teardrop by Tommia Wright

From the archives –

The calendar says it’s winter.
Right now I only see rain.
Mind you, I’m fine if the snow
Doesn’t cover the roads again.
Let the skiers have their fun.
Bare roads are fine by me.
Of course, now having jinxed it-
The location of the snow shovel’s a mystery.

Friday Fast One

Kit's Miffed

“I read that when cats are cuddling and kneading you, and you think it’s cute, they’re really just checking your vitals for weak spots.” ~ Kandyse McClure

Here’s Kit – mildly annoyed with me because we made a deal: the colder it gets outside, the more warm cuddling time inside. The other deal was not to ‘burn the midnight oil’ researching when sleep would be more logical.

Yes, sleep is good, sleep is healthy, and sleep is wise. (Chris has a great article here.) So, why I have I already failed my inner-deal of going to bed earlier than I have been, fully aware that I am a morning person?

Should probably sleep on that answer tonight (or risk another look like this from Kit).

Thursday Thanks

River Park 2014

The temperature’s colder that what is seen here
As a new day begins in another new year.
What do we have to be thankful for?
Quite a lot, just a little, maybe gifts galore.

“I trust in your unfailing love;
My heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord for he has been good to me.”
So is the song to sing in verses 5 and 6 of Psalm 13.

Who do we trust in this new day?
Someone new or someone of yesterday?
Will they be here today or tomorrow or more?
Walk with them with the Lord now and forever.

Reflections

Mount Si Christmas Day 2014

Another year comes to a close
Where did the days go – nobody knows.
But do we really count the days
When we should look at the ways
We made connections with family and friends
What bonds exist – may they never end.
For it isn’t the ticking of seconds gone by
But the beats of our heart
Moments of laughter and cries.
Instead of looking back at what was undone
Look forward to what worth cherishing, trying
Something new, familiar, soulful, fun.
As the hours fade by from 2014
What awaits us in 2015 is yet to be seen.

Thank you to those who stopped by here a spell. May time be found to enjoy your sharings as well! Have a fun, safe celebration.

Dear Anonymous

A timely item to reflect upon – How do we see one another as we begin to reflect on this year’s passing/next year’s beginning?

Dear Friends, please help me get this letter to the person who needs it by sharing it on your Facebook page, email and Twitter. Thank you.

Dear Anonymous,

I was very much disheartened by your anonymous letter. I was saddened that you hadn’t the courage to include your name so I could help you understand the truth. Since I must believe that you wouldn’t possibly “friend” a “man like me” on your Facebook page, I can only hope that someone you know shares this post on their site and that God guides you to this letter.

I came to your church to tell you about God’s love for His children and to talk about the beauty of His forgiveness. I don’t think you heard me. Or, at least, believed me. You wrote in your…
