Wednesday Words

caution park

Careful! There’s that
Awful four-letter word
No self-respecting adult says.

You know, the one thing so absurd.
Outlawed in the grown-up world.
Unnecessary, undoable, utterly useless these days.

Caution the off-taskers who
Often lose time
Meandering with games, deadlines belated
Everything, anything no longer obeyed.

Oh, the app-crazed world, board games galore
Unbelievable words, points, strategies – one could grow bored.
Taking over the basics – the focus must stay!

At least until the work is done
None of this nonsense of that f-word: fun
Dawdlers, stop distracting me in pursuit of my-. Hey,

Pass me the cards, roll the dice, go this way
Laugh at some jokes, tell some riddles, okay?
And remember, no age limit to join the fun today
Y’all can toss off the paperwork yoke; it’s time to play!

Tuesday Tidbit

unlimited

Ebb and Flow
Ne’er the same way goes
Endless imagination and
Relentless intimidation
Giving, taking during a story’s making
Your words are your sword.

Amazing what a few word sprints will do. In various lengths with some interesting prompts, found 2200 3000 words and a few fights along the way. For those you in your NaNo pursuits, how are you fairing?

Monday Moment

city 2014

Mirrored in the squares unseen
Is a chaotic symphony of a scene –
Decisions debated, dreams deflated
Talking, balking, walking –some
Obvious, obscure, sincere, a blur
While changes are made, impact unknown
New day above, unseen below.

Sunday Snapshot

River Park in November

Temperatures drop and leaves will fall
Until Nature bares it all;
And the river continues to flow.

Runners are fewer, and hikers, too
While the sky turns a more vibrant blue;
And the river continues to flow.

Days grow short and shadows grow long
There’s a new melody in the birds’ song;
And the river continues to flow.

Sunday shot by Tommia Wright

Sunday shot by Tommia Wright

Ever have that perfect song play just when you needed it? That song that had the medicinal melody or balm-like beat, laced with the lyrics needed to lift the day?

Such is the case with the hymn, “Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word.

What songs lift your spirits, offering a lifeline for heart and soul?

Wednesday’s Words

orange flower 2 companions

Sometimes the words are plentiful,
The scenes wide and easy to spot.
Sometimes the words are trapped,
Prying them open a challenge to continue a plot.
With the word count so low
Do I just let the goal go?
With almost half a month done
Do I just say the Inner Editor won?
Or maybe I just shake it off
And try again later.
The right words, tone, scene
Waiting to emerge even greater.

-notes-

Like another authoress, I wonder where the words went. Granted, the energy’s spent, but at least there was a spark for a drabble or two. Well, there’s always tomorrow.

Tuesday Tidbit

wild and bare

The opening lines to this year’s NaNo, “Swim, Swan, Swim” following a short poetic explanatory introduction:

The plain was grassy, wild and bare,
Wide, wild, and open to the air,
Which had built up everywhere
An under-roof of doleful gray.

(From Alfred Lord Tennyson’s “The Dying Swan”)

Tennyson Swan stood in the middle of the field, hands on his hips and scanned the relatively open space, determined not to let the fear creep in as he inhaled deeply, then yelled as loud as he could. The crisp air biting back did little to help his cold, but declining the invitation was not an option and time was of the essence.

“Lucas! Maddison! Nathan!”

No response as the surrounding trees that offered no clues. What movement he could see offered no sound. Tennyson remained perfectly still as the tall grass parted, not unlike the waters in Moses’ time. Why he thought of Mrs. O’s Sunday school lessons now, he could not say; his mind repeating the same silent prayer over and over again.
