And no one chances to hear
Did it really fall at all?
Stop and ask a deer.

If in the woods emerges a stump
Does anyone, in their throat,
Get a lump?
Maybe that’s only the goat.

If in the woods a tree does grow
Where emptiness once was
Do you see it in the sun’s glow?
Or lament what once was?

If in the woods emerges calm
Does anyone really hear?
Or realize the gifts in one’s palm?
Then give thanks sincere.
