See Food in San Fran

See Food in San Fran

Today’s NaBloPoMo prompt asks, Tell us about the last thing a person or advertisement convinced you to buy.

I don’t watch much television and the news/classical music stations I listen to have very few commercials.

During our NaNoWriMo fun, we tend to gather in coffee shops and different restaurants around the Valley. Last night’s end-point for the ‘7-Day Sprint’ (in 5 venues, 3 meals, 1 fulfilling day), was the Thai Duvall restaurant. One friend spoke highly of the soups. (I enjoyed the spiciest one). Another friend spoke of the fun to try sticky rice and mango. (We splurged).

It was a fun way to enjoy a day of writing.

Monkeys’ Round in San Fran by Tommia Wright

Today’s Daily Prompt asks: “Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?/Photographers, artists, poets: show us PLAY.”

Yes, I play in my daily life. Maybe too much. (Still working on improving upon that procrastination habit; too much time with tech too often). It doesn’t help that I’ve learned to play with Pinterest and Zazzle.

I make time to write daily – this blog and other things; I draw or doodle, depending on the day; the keyboard has less dust on in than usual and the music notebook has more than ink smudges, and then there’s the daily word jumble or SET/Quiddler puzzles.

How do you play?

Friday Follow-up

IMG_0833“My guiding principle is this: Guilt is never to be doubted.” ~ Franz Kafka

I haven’t had a chance to keep up with the blogs this past week the way I wish. Just now catching up on work I’ve missed and personal projects I had put aside for too long.

  • The NaNo project is coming along fairly well – haven’t fallen into the valley of frustration yet. (even if blog posts/updates have dropped down)
  • The Fiction  Sketchbook Project was sent and received (despite the notion of sending it long before deadline). Now to turn that into a chap book or something else.
  • The follow-up to “Reflections on Water” is almost ready for print.
  • Thanks to not one, but two great workshops courtesy of arteast, a few more ‘crafty’ elements are emerging. (to be shared eventually)
  • A few more photo collections have been created, with a few more queued to go.

Now to wonder what the weekend will bring…

Tuesday Unplugged

IMG_1397Today’s NaBloPoMo prompt asks: How much of the day are you plugged in? Do you consciously set aside offline time, or does it happen whenever it happens?

I’m guilty. The only time I am properly disconnected/unplugged is during meals times, commuting, binge reading, and sleeping. It wasn’t always this bad. Some of us in our writing group joked about how easily we were distracted by the internet. There are weekends where I properly unwind, ducking online to renew overdue items. There really isn’t a practical reason for the lengths of time online. I should do more of that -set up less screen time.

Daily Prompt – Identity

A delayed, two-part response to the Daily Prompt: “Do you know the meaning of your name, and why your parents chose it? Do you think it suits you? What about your children’s names?” Photographers, artists, poets: show us IDENTITY.

The video is in response to part two of the prompt: Show us Identity.

As for the meaning of my name, I keep that to myself, unless I’m pressed. What matters to me is that my parents had their reasons for gifting me with both names, and the rhythm the whole name makes sounds nice. (And to ‘debunk one friend’s friend’s remark’ – no, it wasn’t because my parents aimed to be cruel with unusual names)

While I don’t name children (unless Kit and Kat count), I do choose my characters’ names carefully, not having used the same name twice (that I know of).

Monday Momentary Miss

IMG_0410Today’s NaBloPoMo prompt asks: “Tell us about a blog post that you didn’t publish.” Well, that would be a response to a Daily Prompt post: Identity. I had a video found and a few random thoughts on it.

I suppose I could post it today, in response to today’s Daily Post: Land of Confusion.

Have I lost you yet? (I hope not) The reason the Identity Post (among twelve others on this blog, seven on the other) wasn’t published was because I had second thoughts. ‘Does this make sense?’ ‘How late am I for work?’ ‘Does this even work?’ Who knows, maybe before the day is over, I might publish it still. Then again, I may take the collection of ‘missed posts’ and send them straight to the digital recycling bin…
