So another year is upon us, another chapter of life. My focus – making the most of each day I have.
How do you measure time? What milestones/markers/goals do you put in place for yourself?

Hard to believe how quickly this year has gone. Many wonderful things have happened; many sad events give pause.
As is the case with any year-end review, most print publications repeat memorable photos; news shows offer a presentation of personalities now gone; radio stations count down the songs. Various businesses boast of booming months while others bare the breakdowns, some just before boarding up for good. Stats can be seen/shared for sites/blogs/tweets/what have you.
Granted, I’ll admit a fun number for the year was 12-12-12.
But one number stands out –
52,560,000 times the average heart has beaten this year (give or take a few thousand).
To you, Dear Reader, I wish the following:
May the closing year be safe;
May the upcoming year be filled with promise and many blessings.
A sneak peek to the Sketchbook Project 2013 titled
“Leaf ‘n’ Memories”
Today’s Friday Ficlet goes back to the first NaNo I attempted.
The sketch was attempted courtesy of a fellow writer’s prompting after I lamented failing to find the ‘perfect photo’ to accompany the piece. Surprisingly, I didn’t use the eraser as much as I thought I would. Maybe now I can do some serious catching up on the Sketchbook Project next.
The beginning of the revision for “Crossing Seasons” can be found here.
It’s interesting, listening about television ads after Christmas:
‘get the gift you really want’ or
‘see what everyone else got that you didn’t get’ or
‘to really know they cared about you, they would have given you this.’
When I was a kid, the one gift I wanted more than anything else was a brother or sister. Granted, ‘young logic’ never thought through the challenges of why getting an ‘older sibling’ could be impossible, or how long one had to wait to get a younger sibling (never mind the ‘how’ to begin with). Most friends I knew had one, so I wanted one, too.
I ‘settled’ for puzzle games, relatives’ ‘good intentions’ and books (that latter winning almost every single time, the first one handy for ‘time out’ and the second one…well, even now there are times when it’s the thought behind the gift that matters (and means the) most. The older I get, the happier I am with time I have with family.
I have a splendid, strong-minded sibling I wouldn’t trade for anything or anyone. And he and my sister-in-law know me like a book. The above item was a gift given this year.
Do I worry about lacking the ‘latest items/fads/gadgets/whatever?’ No. They are things.
You don’t need to put a ribbon on hugs.
Amazing how things can change in a matter of a couple of weeks (this photo and the one below were taken two weeks ago today).
Down in a lowly manger
The humble Christ was born
And God sent us salvation
That blessed Christmas morn
Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.
