Quick response to today’s Daily Prompt: Who is the one person you hope isn’t reading your blog? Why?

Easy- my parents. It’s already too much fun (yes, tongue in cheek) explaining the stories in print – the few I have and the lack of anything new. Then there’s dodging the queries as to why I duck out of certain social events, why I almost always have my camera, etc. That and my parents prefer things to be on the factual side of life. If they knew how many tiny things I’ve woven into my characters in the various snippets, etc., I’d be violating the one never ending birthday gift my brother and I agreed upon: never make the other one an only child. (smile)

As for the other (belated) Daily Prompt response, this time to: Are as comfortable in front of a camera as behind one? Being written about, as well as writing?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us DISCOMFORT

Obviously the shooter’s side of the camera (as this blog illustrates). However, I have been ‘shot’ at least three times; twice, photos have ended up on someone else’s Facebook page (gave permission, don’t know why).

If you squint, photographer/blogger is below! (smile)

Then I happened upon a Dove video, a followup to another campaign they had.

So, before I come to my senses, this fool’s update:

As for writing, I prefer power of the pen – something my boss knew as he took to revising a piece written about me. Evidently, different newsletters have different tones and my ‘Detective Joe Friday/just the facts’ approach to my piece was ‘too dry.’ So, my boss revised; it’s published; even gave permission for it to be on Facebook (don’t know what I was thinking there, either)

Sunday Snapshots – Houghton Beach Edition

It pays to get lost. I was trying to find a destination I’ll return to later in the week only to be turned around. Happy discovery – Houghton Beach. So, between that and my 35mm camera cooperating – here are some shots from the Sunday drive.

Wacky Day Wednesday

Kit/Kat's in the Bag by Tommia Wright

Kit/Kat’s in the Bag by Tommia Wright

Ah, wacky days.

Yesterday was “I Forgot Day.” I forgot that. Maybe I can credit that to “World UFO Day.” I’m sure there was an X-Files, Fringe, Supernatural, or Warehouse 13 episode on the topic(s).

Today is “‘Compliment Your Mirror Day.” I did, by having it face the wall (in honor of Disobedience Day).

It’s also “Stay out of the Sun Day.” One of the cats found a new hiding spot, so I thought it only fair to spotlight Kit/Kat for the Companion Challenge on the Weekly Photo Challenge.

What ways do you stay cool? Any wacky days above (or on the list via link) strike your fancy or do you have some of your own?

Less Traveled

Roads Traveled by Tommia Wright

Roads Traveled by Tommia Wright

Today’s Daily Prompt asks,  Pinpoint a moment in your past where you had to make a big decision. Write about that other alternate life that could have unfolded.

(This will detour from the given topic.)

A friend of mine received a job offer out of state. I went to the same job fair without the same result, but went just the same. Why?

There was nothing in my home state holding me back; I had grown tired of teaching and because my father said ‘go for it!’ He’s the adventurous traveler; my mother prefers to stay home.  My brother had already taken a ‘slight detour-drive’ that way (supposedly it was just a weekend fishing trip, but I digress) and said ‘it’ll be fun!’

I’m the type of recovering workaholic who never ended one job without having another lined up. I had always assumed I’d continue teaching, but given the job I had left behind, spending my final employment year in retail, I had no idea what I was doing.

I didn’t feel comfortable with that.

So the Sunday’s leading up to departure for my first big move, I talked with Pastor S (who gave his last sermon this past Sunday) for guidance. He, like my father, said ‘let go; let God.’ Who knew what awaited me in Denver, but it was a move worth trying, a different road to travel on. Pastor S gave me six churches within a 15-mile distance from where I was moving to. That first Sunday, I drove to the first one in the stacks, the one less than 3 miles from ‘home.’

Did I end up teaching, despite my determination not to? Yes. Learned many things, too. Do I regret the near-decade in Denver? No. I was blessed with the friends and ‘family’ there and enjoy returning as time permits.

Ducky Devilish Sticky/Logic by Tommia Wright

Ducky Devilish Sticky/Logic by Tommia Wright

Today is International Joke Day. Seriously. The only joke that comes to mind deals with some of the laws my state passed that take effect today – but I seldom digress into political prose.

So instead, I’ll be celebrating National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day -it’s a sweeter alternative. The last creation I cobbled together consisted of shaved almonds, coconut and chocolate in vanilla ice cream for my own ‘almond joy.’ (Intend to repeat the flavors with coconut ice cream atop pressed chocolate-covered almond crumbs.)

What flavors will you create today? What flavors do you miss from your favorite ice cream shop?
